Professional Lawn Seeding Services in Minnesota

A thick, healthy lawn starts with the right seed—and the right seeding method. At Showcase Lawn Care, we offer professional lawn seeding services designed to improve density, fill bare spots, and promote stronger turf that naturally resists weeds and stress.

Our Seeding Options Include:

✅ Aeration & Overseeding

Our most popular renovation service. Core aeration opens the soil, allowing better seed-to-soil contact and improving air, water, and nutrient movement. Ideal for thickening an existing lawn and introducing improved grass varieties.

✅ Slit Seeding

For lawns that are thin or heavily damaged, slit seeding plants seed directly into the soil in uniform rows for superior germination. Excellent when more aggressive renovation is needed.  This offers the best overall solution for insect or drought damaged turf.

✅ Dethatching & Overseeding

When thatch buildup is excessive, we mechanically remove the layer of dead grass and debris, then overseed to help rejuvenate the turf. Great for spring or early fall recovery.  In some cases this will be done in combination with otrher seeding services.

✅ Topdressing with Black Dirt & Overseeding

We apply a thin layer of screened black dirt to level uneven areas and improve soil quality, then overseed for better establishment. This is ideal for bare patches, low spots, or lawns with poor topsoil. The added soil improves seed germination and root development.

✅ Pre-germinated seeding:

We pre-germinate our seed with soil to give the new grass a head start. We mix seed with soil, fertilizer and water and keep in a warm area to start the germination process, then we apply a thin layer to the damaged areas. This is very effective for Dog spots, diseased spots for necrotic ring spot, or bare patches.

We don’t use big-box store blends. At Showcase, we seed with premium turfgrass varieties selected specifically for Minnesota’s climate and soil types. These advanced cultivars offer:

In full-sun, we recommend Kentuckly Bluegrass.  It's slow to germinate but is the best turf for filling in bare spots and making a beautiful Lawn. 

In Shady areas, we recomment Tough Shade tall fesue blend.

What We Guarantee (And What We Don’t)

We guarantee a professional seeding job, performed with the correct method, quality seed, and proper equipment.  However, we never guarantee seed germination, because results depend heavily on consistent watering—something we do not control after the service is complete.

We’ll provide watering guidelines to give your seed the best shot at success. Be realisitic about watering, professional seeding is a very cost effective way to improve the lawn, but it won't work without proper watering.

Best Time to Seed in Minnesota

• Late summer into early fall (August–September): Best time for seeding due to warm soil and cooler air.
• Spring (April–May): Ideal for patch repairs and overseeding after aeration or dethatching.
