Showcase Lawn Update: The Great Green-Up
Date: April 21, 2026
Current Conditions: High Activity & Rapid Warming
🌡️ What’s Happening Right Now
We are officially in the "Sweet Spot" for Round 1.
Our team is monitoring soil temperatures across the Twin Cities daily. Currently, we’re seeing a significant split: Shady areas are holding at 44°F, while full-sun areas with sandy soil have already jumped to 50°F.
The Result: The grass is waking up, but so are the weeds. Because of this early warm-up, we are actively including Broadleaf Weed Control in our current applications to knock out early-season invaders like dandelions and clover before they take hold.
🛡️ Our Strategy: Building the Barrier
We are in the middle of our Round 1 rollout with two primary objectives:
- Crabgrass Prevention: We are laying down Prodiamine to create a vapor barrier in the soil. This stops crabgrass seeds from successfully germinating as we approach the 55°F threshold.
- Nutrition & Biology: We’re using CoRoN for a steady, controlled green-up (no surge growth) and Hydra Hume (Humic Acid). Humic acid is critical for our local sandy soils, acting like a "magnet" to help your soil retain nutrients rather than letting them leach away.
Note on Weeds: If you see weeds today, don’t panic. Most spring weeds actually established themselves last fall. This visit is our "First Strike," and our Round 2 visit will be the HAMMER and will include a "Booster" pre-emergent to finish the job.
🚨 TICK ALERT: The Threat Has Changed
As soil temperatures hit 50°F, ticks are officially active. In Minnesota, we are no longer just looking out for Lyme Disease; new, more aggressive threats are moving into the Metro area.
- Powassan Virus: Unlike Lyme, which takes 24+ hours to transmit, Powassan can infect in as little as 15 minutes. It is a serious neurological threat with no antibiotic cure.
- Alpha-gal Syndrome: Carried by the Lone Star tick, a bite can trigger a permanent, life-altering allergy to red meat.
- Anaplasmosis: Now the second most common tick-borne disease in our state.
Our Defense: We create a Perimeter Shield. We target the "Transition Zones"—where your lawn meets woods, tall grass, or mulch beds—knocking out 80% of ticks before they ever reach your patio.
💧 Homeowner "To-Do" List
To keep your lawn ahead of the heat, please follow these two critical tips this week:
- Start Watering: It has been an unusually dry start to the spring. Your lawn needs moisture now to process the nutrients we are applying. Aim for 1" of water per week to keep the root zone hydrated.
- Raise the Mower: As temperatures rise, so should your blade. Set your mower to 3.5 inches. Taller grass shades the soil, keeps roots cool, and naturally crowds out weeds.
📬 Secure Your Protection
Our Tick Protection list is currently open for the 2026 season, but spots are filling fast as the weather warms.
Don't wait until you find a tick on your dog or a family member. Ensure your "Perimeter Shield" is in place before the peak season hits. Call to schedule your tick and mosquito prevention treatments.
